HUMPTY'S HIKE 2010

The combination of 100 fantastic women, beautiful weather, a gorgeous location, 6 hrs of walking, breathtaking scenery, a wonderful evening of entertainment and the chance to reflect on what Humpty's Hike was all about, made the weekend a very memorable one for the ladies. The saying 'girls just want to have fun' is so true, as there were smiles on everyones faces the whole weekend, even whilst doing the hard uphill slog to make it to the top of Mt Kosciusko.

The hike offered challenges for many - whether it was trekking over snow, walking barefoot through the icy Snowy River, the altitude, the long walking distance or the suns' strong rays. It was these challenges that reminded the 100 women partaking in Humpty's Hike of the uphill battles facing kids in hospital, as they climb a mountain everyday.

With Adventure1000 as Trek Leaders on the Hike, everyone managed to make it to the top and the  wonderful contribution and enthusiasm from the women meant that the fundraising total was above and beyond the initial one hundred thousand goal. This being the case, in addition to the Paediatric Fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital, Humpty will also be purchasing additional pieces of medical equipment that our hospitals so desperately need. The pieces will be plaqued stating - Generously donated by the 2010 Humpty Hikers.

Humpty's Hike was not just about the weekend or the walk - conquering the highest point in Oz. It was all about the journey we have been on since the idea started - the weekend walks, the fundraising, the training, meeting wonderful women and the generous support of family & friends. As individuals we felt limited by how much we could contribute but as a collective we have been able to make a significant difference for the kids.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated and supported this wonderful cause.

3 more sleeps till Humpty's Hike!

Humpty's Hike is all set for this coming weekend which meant that the training session from Spit to Long Reef on Saturday was the last one. The warmer weather meant there were many stop/starts along the way but the majority finally made it to Long Reef. The 100 women are all very excited and looking forward to a wonderful weekend away.

2 weeks till Humpty's Hike!

After all the rain we had during the week, the sun decided to show itself on Sunday morning for the group of nearly 40 women who took to the suburban streets for a training walk. Not only did the group walk together but were stopped at various intervals by Michele from Adventure1000, to complete brief repetitions up and down some grass slopes. We looked like a force not to be reckoned with being such a large group with all our training gear and backpacks on. Everyone enjoyed taking in the various sights of parts of Sydney - there were some parts that the ladies didn't even know existed.

Rain, hail or shine...........unfortunately, it was a bit of rain for the group of 12 lovely ladies who braved the overcast, showery day on Sunday. From Kirribilli to Balmoral they splashed through puddles as the weather decided to be a constant drizzle. Undeterred, the group kept a fast pace which made it a great training session. With grey looking weather it was hard not to stop at one of the cafes that were passed for a hot something as they all looked very appealing - much self-control was required!

It was great to see so many ladies at the Group Walk on the weekend and a wonderful opportunity for the women to meet each other. The women who participated in the training session on Saturday morning were fortunate to meet and walk with Michele Rosengren the Adventure 1000 Program Director for Humpty's Hike www.adventure1000.com.au

Michele was there to answer any questions and discuss any concerns that the hikers had. There was lots of huffing and puffing as the group of approx. forty walked the loop from Balmoral Beach to Taronga Zoo whilst taking in the sights of a beautiful part of Sydney's coastline.

Fun & Fundraising at the Baby & Kids Market

In August, Tash and I took all our pre-loved baby gear and clothes to the Baby and Kids Market. It was our first market and a fast learning curve but it was a frenzied few hours of talking to people and selling! It felt great to pass on some of our most useful items to other new Mums and Dads and also to talk about Humpty's Hike which was our motivation. I was so excited to raise $560 all of which I have donated to Humpty's Hike. I thought that was a pretty good return for one morning of work! And Cam is happy to have the baby corner of the garage tidied up! I had a little moment when it hit home that we did not have any babies anymore, but 2 little pre-schoolers are excellent fun!
Training routine starts in earnest this week!
